the united states passed the jones’ actto protect crew members of ships and other vessels working on or over water. this law protects the rights of sailors working on:barges, dredges, ships, tow boats, work over rigs tug boats, floating rigs, jack up rigs,crew boats, & supply boats. the jones’ act also protects people whowork over water on structures such as: jack ups, semi-submersible, drill ships, supply boats, derrick barges & submersible oil storage facilities.the jones’ act was needed because sea men and water workers are entitled to protection due to the dangerous nature of the marine work in the iron-clad militarytype discipline
that is exercised over deck hands, engineers,first, second and third mates, captains, roustabouts, roughnecks, drillers, pilots, tanker men,anchor tenders & many other maritime workers employed in the gulf of mexico and throughoutoceans of the world. these hardworking honorable americansare known as blue and brown water seamen. if you have been injured while working overwater, you may be entitled to compensationincluding wages, maintenance and cure, and payment for your pain & suffering, mentalanguish and any illness that may have occurred while you were in service of a ship, a drillingrig and any other vessel.
