okay, you've taken the first step. you'vejoined the real property law section of the state bar of california. now you can takeadvantage of a number of opportunities to get involved with rpls, opportunities thatcan amplify your voice in the programs of the state bar.rpls has over a dozen active subsections, each focusing on your area of practice. andeach subsection has a steering committee, where you can serve on your way to a subsectionchair position. steering committees are a really cool way to get introduced to rplsleadership, get your feet wet, and find out if rpls leadership is right for you.true, everyone is different. but steering committees in your specialty will help introduceyou to the movers and shakers in your field
throughout the state. and you'll have theopportunity to influence the programs and events the subsection promotes. you'll gainexposure to the whole section through subsection promotions and events. it's great for networking.and your supervising partner will love that. after serving with the steering committee,you can apply for the executive committee of the real property law section. the excomguides and manages the rpls. working with other rpls leaders, the excomselects the content for the educational presentations at the state bar annual meeting every fall,and the real property retreat every spring. the excom grooms leadership, approves chairs,and sets the long-range goals of the entire section.in a very real sense, the excom helps shape
the agenda for the real property legal industryin california. now this might sound a little highbrow, but it's about having a real voicein your career field. and once you assume an rpls leadership role, it's even easierto connect with other section members at social and networking meetings.it's the kind of involvement that can help make a difference for you. and it can workfor just about everybody, since you can choose the leadership role that's right for yourcareer and your schedule. because rpls needs good leaders. and if that'syou, please step up and let us know. and there's a ton of events coming up soon.here's a quick list of our anticipated programs at this year's annual meeting in monterey,october 11-14.
